How these guides are written

Every guide follows the same shape, because the second and third parts are usually what people actually want:

  • How to do it. The steps, stated first.
  • Why it works this way. The reasoning behind the default, linked to the encyclopedia entry holding the evidence.
  • What you can change. What is adjustable, and what happens when you adjust it.

Where a design decision is a judgement call rather than something the evidence settles, the guide says so, the same as everywhere else on this site.

Not what you were looking for?

The encyclopedia explains the markers themselves rather than the app. Methodology sets out how the score is calculated. Benchmark sources lists every threshold the app scores against and where each came from.
